I love plants, they make me feel happy and peaceful. It's actually been shown that plants can increase happiness and productivity. Unfortunately, my cats also love plants - well, chewing on them anyway. A lost of plants are toxic to cats especially, it seems, to the low light indoor ones (ASPCA's guide to plant toxicity link: https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants). I've pretty much just had spider plants and palms indoors but now, I can have any plant! By putting them in a closed terrarium, they're pretty much self contained little ecosystems and the cats cannot get to them. Below is the first terrarium that I made. It has a layer of rocks, then a layer of sphagnum moss, then dirt. The plant is a Marble Queen" pothos (Scindapsus aureus). I chose it because (1) it wasn't getting enough attention outside and (2) they are meant to be quite hardy. Below you can see the first photo of when I set it up, and the second photo, one month later. As you can see, it's already grown a couple of new leaves and I may even have to get it a bigger container soon! I think it could do with some more light though, but my house is pretty dark unfortunately.
The first images are of a really nice glass container I got from an op shop for $10, with a maidenhair fern and a syngonium. I think they'll do quite well in there, at least until they get too big.
